How Snapchat works for businesses. Snapchat appears to be winning the race in social video (not counting YouTube of course) and yet it remains a mystery to many in the 25+ crowd.
We talk about this more in a podcast with Social Fresh here:
Lasse Rouhainen breaks down a couple of the major Snapchat features for businesses and gives us a look into what we can expect from other social video sites that will soon emulate this great power.
Discovery- for big brands only. This feature allows brands to post short, high def vids that open up into a longer video. So imagine a Food Network ad that is a 10 sec video. You click in, and it opens up to a 4 minute video of a recipe.
Stories- this is for everyone. Stories function like a newsfeed in other social sites. This is where you can post your 10 second videos (or less) and your images. They will play in sequential order as a “story” and disappear after 24 hours.
Vine is another contender in the space but with only 6 second allowed for creators, will brands really tolerate this platform much longer? After all, no one is going to Vine for free (for very long anyway). Snapchat for business seems to win this battle.
Instagram video allows for 15 seconds and is owned by Facebook. There was a lot of hope for Instagram video and yet Snapchat for business use again comes out on top.
Twitter video is the new kid on the block allowing for 30 seconds of tweetable video but it still waiting to catch serious attention. Twitter is also the owner of Vine so they are cannibalizing themselves to win the battle that Snapchat seems to be dominating.
You'll have to watch the video for more. Talk to you soon!
